Community Waste Applications
|
We recommend that all communities establish a comprehensive solid waste management plan. Ideally, the plan will maximize resource recovery opportunities wherever possible. However, even the most sophisticated programs will require residual disposal. Thermal treatment reduces waste materials to ash that can be safely deposited in a landfill optimizing use of land and minimizing environmental impacts.
Typical Community Waste sources:
- Residuals from post-recycling stream
- Light industry
- Institutions - schools, medical clinics, nursing homes
- Commercial facilities - stores, restaurants, hotels
- Residuals from local hunting and fishing activities
Waste types suitable for processing:
- Domestic waste / general garbage
- Mattresses
- Diapers
- Furniture
- Restaurant grease
- Textiles
- Some liquid wastes
- Animal carcasses
- Used oil, filters and absorbents
- Tires
- Paper, cardboard & packaging materials
- Sewage sludge
Please note: Household hazardous waste must be diverted for appropriate treatment.
